Role based financial dashboard
Role based financial dashboard
The platform’s homepage previously functioned as a static accounts overview, offering limited guidance on what required attention. Users were presented with large volumes of financial data without clear prioritisation, making it difficult to quickly identify urgent tasks or next steps.
The redesign focused on transforming the homepage into an actionable dashboard — surfacing key insights, alerts, and relevant data based on user needs, while maintaining clarity within a complex, multi-product fintech environment.

Context & Scope
Context & Scope
Enterprise fintech platform supporting crypto and fiat operations
Multiple user roles with varying permissions (Admin, Initiator, Viewer, etc.)
High information density across accounts, payments, conversions and approvals
Existing homepage lacked prioritisation and actionable guidance

Problem
Problem
The homepage acted primarily as a data display rather than a decision-making tool. Users had to interpret account balances, transactions, and system states without clear signals on what required action, increasing cognitive load and slowing down workflows.

Goal
Goal
Design a homepage that surfaces relevant information and prioritises key actions, enabling users to quickly understand system state, identify tasks, and navigate efficiently across the platform.

The redesign focused on restructuring the homepage to improve hierarchy, introduce actionable elements (such as alerts and approvals), and support multiple user roles without fragmenting the experience.

Constraints
Constraints
Balancing diverse user needs across roles required careful prioritisation of information. The solution also needed to work within existing platform architecture while maintaining clarity in a high-risk financial environment.

Role-based system complexity
Role-based system complexity
The platform supported a highly granular permission model across multiple roles and workflows. To design a scalable experience, this complexity was simplified into clear role archetypes — ensuring each user sees only what is relevant to their responsibilities.

Role Hierarchy Diagram
This structure directly informed how content and actions were prioritised within the dashboard.

Homepage Navigation Model
The homepage centralises key actions across products, enabling users to directly access critical workflows without navigating multiple sections.
How the dashboard adapts by role.

• Homepage content changes based on role priorities
• High-frequency actions are surfaced per user type
• Irrelevant modules are hidden to reduce noise
• Approval + task states are prioritised for decision-makers

Trade offs & Constraints
Trade offs & Constraints
The dashboard needed to support multiple user roles within a single interface. This meant balancing flexibility with clarity so that each user saw only what was relevant to them. At the same time, key actions had to remain visible without overwhelming the screen. Rather than splitting the experience into multiple dashboards, a unified approach was maintained across all roles.

Scope & Platform Impact
Scope & Platform Impact
The homepage was redesigned from a static landing page into a central action hub. This required rethinking how users navigate and access key workflows across the platform. Treasury Solutions, eCommerce, and Exotic FX were brought into a single, consistent structure. Content and actions were then adapted based on user roles.

The Solution
The Solution
The design moved away from account-focused navigation toward action-driven entry points. Actions were grouped by product area to improve clarity and reduce friction. Key tasks were surfaced at the top level to support faster decision-making. The homepage also introduced personalised greetings to create a more contextual and human experience. A consistent layout was applied across all roles to maintain familiarity.

Impact & Outcomes
Impact & Outcomes
Users were able to access key actions much more efficiently from the homepage. Important features became easier to discover across different product areas. Navigation effort was reduced across common tasks. The structure now supports future product expansion without requiring a redesign.
